From Somerville:

Proceed West on Somerset Street into the Borough of Raritan.

Once you are in Raritan, pass through the first traffic light (Thompson St)

Make the second right after the light onto Wall St.

Proceed to the end and the Municipal Court facility in directly in front of you.

Parking is located to the rear of the building.


If You received a Traffic or Non Traffic Summons that Does Not require a Court Appearance, and you wish to enter a GUILTY plea to the violation, you may pay the prescribed penalty, which is listed on the (click here->) VIOLATIONS BUREAU SCHEDULE. You may either mail the summons with the prescribed penalty to:

Or pay in person at the Somerville Violations Bureau located at the above address.

The Borough of Somerville Municipal Court/Violations Bureau now accepts Visa & Mastercard payments at their office located in Somerville and also at the court sessions in Raritan.

Important Municipal Court Information

Plea of Not Guilty

If you intend to plead not guilty to a Summons and Complaint and have a trial, you must notify the Court at the telephone number are shown above, of your intention at least 7 days prior to your scheduled court date. If you fail to notify the Court, it may be necessary for you to make two court appearances.

Court Appearance Required

If "Court Appearance Required" is checked on your Summons and Complaint you must appear in court at the time and place indicated, even if you wish to plead guilty. If "Court Appearance Required" is not checked on your Summons and Complaint you must still appear in court if: a) you wish to have a trial; or b) the charge is not listed on the State or Local (Supplemental) Violations Bureau Schedule.

Plea of Guilty: Payment Through Violations Bureau

You may plead quilty and pay the penalty, if the check box “Court Appearance Required” has not been checked on the reverse side and the offense is payable without the necessity of court appearance. You may either sign onto www.njmcdirect.com to determine if the offense is payable and the amount of the penalty or telephone the court. If you wish to pay the penalty, bring or mail the ticket, together with payment in the amount of the penalty, to the court at the address indicated prior to the court date displayed on the front of the ticket.
