Somerville Public Library

Library’s Mission Statement

The mission of the Somerville Public Library is to provide print and non-print materials to meet individual and group needs in the community for information, recreation, education, and cultural growth. This is accomplished by selecting materials for purchase, by organizing the material for use by the public, and by maintaining lending procedures that make the best possible use of the collection. The Library provides information services to Somerville residents, students, employees, members of the Raritan Valley Federation, members of the Libraries of Middlesex Consortium, and walk-in services to non-card holders.

The Library’s strategy and plans for growth aim to deliver the maximum value to patrons as well as employees. "Value" is defined in terms of 1) quality of processes, systems, and environment, and in 2) results achieved in relation to costs incurred. Every effort is made to build employee loyalty and satisfaction with the understanding that this is a major determinant of patron loyalty.
