The Citizen Advisory Committee was established in 1985 to foster improved relations between the Somerville Police Department, the Borough of Somerville and the community at large.
This committee has been actively involved with the annual observance of National Night Out Against Crime, which is held on the first Tuesday in August and works to solve community concerns, where possible.
Current topics that the committee is addressing include; the Citizen's Police Academy, Emergency Notification System within the Borough and a Community Center proposal. The committee has addressed such issues as; improved lighting of Borough streets, patrolling of Borough neighborhoods, and various code enforcement topics as they arise.
The committee meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Immaculata High School, 240 Mountain Ave. at 7:00pm. There is no meeting in the month of December. All interested citizens are welcome to attend these meetings.
The mission of the Somerville Human Relations Committee is to:
1. Promote and encourage a sense of community among residents.
2. Promote unity through mutual respect.
3. Promote understanding, sensitivity, and appreciation for all cultures.
4. Promote events that foster appreciation of our similarities, individualities, and differences.
5. Take personal responsibility for promoting positive and harmonious relationships throughout our neighborhoods.
6. Recognize those individuals who exemplify Somerville’s Human Relations values.
7. Identify, develop and implement educational and training programs that enrich Human Relations.
8. Be the Borough of Somerville’s Ambassadors of Goodwill to fellow residents in the community.
