SUMMERVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA, SOMERVILLE, NEW JERSEY AND SOMERVILLE MASSACHUSETTS JOIN FORCES TO ASSIST HURRICANE SANDY VICTIMS
Summerville, South Carolina, Somerville, New Jersey and Somerville, Massachusetts join forces to conduct a drive to assist New Jersey Shore victims. Deliveries will be made to the New Jersey shore on three consecutive Saturdays, throughout December.
Mayor William C. Collins of Summerville, South Carolina contacted Mayor Gallagher and wanted to assist immediately. His municipality remembered how New Jersey and the Borough of Somerville assisted his residents during Hurricane Hugo in September of 1989 and wanted to reciprocate.
Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, of Somerville Massachusetts also contacted Mayor Gallagher and offered their services. Mayor Curtatone and Mayor Gallagher have forged a relationship over the past year by having a friendly wager on Super Bowl XLII.
The Borough of Somerville will be collecting supplies at Borough Hall, 25 West End Ave and Engine Company #1, 170 East Main Street until December 14th. If you wouldl like to donate and you are unable to bring to the drop-off locations, the Borough will arrange pickup from your home or business.
Hurricane Sandy victims are still in need of donated items, which include canned foods, non-perishable foods, household products, cleaning supplies’, toiletry products, baby items, such as baby wipes, diapers, hygiene items, dog and cat food.
The Governor’s Office of New Jersey is coordinating the delivery locations at the Jersey Shore.
Deliveries to the shore will be made the following day:
Somerville South Carolina: December 8, 2012
Somerville, New Jersey: December 15, 2012
Somerville, Massachusetts: December 22, 2012
