Another section of Somerville to receive new recycling totes

Posted on March 26, 2025

Recycling update

More Somerville residents will receive wheeled recycling totes, for curbside recycling, on or about April 1.

Who will receive the new totes?

The Somerset County Recycling Division will deliver new totes to 153 residences located in Zone W-4A, which includes sections of:

  • Arlyne Drive
  • Prospect Drive
  • Prospect Stret
  • West Summit Street
  • Altamont Place
  • North Middaugh Street

When will I receive the new recycling totes?

The county is phasing in the Dual Stream Tote program one area (zone) at a time. Residents will be provided with two 65-gallon wheeled recycling totes over the next few years.

There are three zones in Somerville (west of Bridge Street) that continue using the blue buckets. The county will let us know when they will provide new totes in these zones.

About the Dual Stream Tote program

Each tote has a different color lid (yellow and lime green). Stickers on the lids indicate what materials are to be placed in the totes.

Regular scheduled pickups with the new totes will begin on your next scheduled recycling date after delivery of totes. The tote with the lime green lid is for the cardboard and paper products, and the tote with the yellow lid is for commingled glass, cans, and plastic materials.
