Gina Stravic
3-year term: January 3, 2026 to December 31, 2028
Gina Stravic was appointed to the Borough Council in 2022 to fill a vacancy and elected to 3-year terms in 2023 and 2026.
For 16 years, Gina was a member of the Environmental Commission and served as chair. The Commission addresses environmental issues in our community and obtained bronze-level status in the state’s Sustainable Jersey municipal program.
Gina graduated from Red Bank Regional High School and from Springfield College with a degree in Recreation Administration. She relocated to Somerville after her marriage to Dan Swass in 1983. Dan and Gina are the proud parents of Thomas, John, and James Swass who all graduated from Somerville High School and now maintain professional careers.
Gina has over 35 years of management experience and is currently Executive Director of the Raritan Valley YMCA in East Brunswick. She embraces the core values of the YMCA: honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.
As a community volunteer, Gina is a member of the Somerville Rescue Squad Auxiliary and the American Legion Star Post 127. She holds lifetime membership status with Girl Scouts of the USA, served for 30 years as a troop leader in Somerville, and now volunteers as the outdoor consultant for the Somerville Girl Scouts. She also served as a soccer and basketball coach for Somerville Recreation for 17 years and was a member of the Somerville Recreation Commission for 5 years.
As a councilmember, Gina is chair of the Public Works Committee and vice-chair of the Finance Committee. She is the council liaison for the First Aid and Rescue Squad, Board of Health, CDBG and Accident Review Committee.
