8/3/2012 - Regionalized Policing Public Hearings August 16, 2012 and August 30, 2012

 

Public Hearings on Police Consolidation will be held on August 16, 2012 and August 30, 2012 at 7:00pm in Council Chambers, 24 South Bridge St, Somerville.

 

At the Somerville Borough Council meeting on Monday, April 17, 2012, Mayor Brian Gallagher announced the formation of a Task Force to review the recommendations contained in the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Task Force on Regionalized Policing.  


The final report was released on April 12, 2012 and provides a comprehensive analysis of current municipal police organizations, communications, operations, records management, facilities, operating procedures, and existing labor contracts.

The  Mayor and Borough Council  has appointed  a task force that includes cross representation of stakeholders and citizens-at-large within the Borough to study this report and make a recommendation to the Mayor and Borough Council prior to the September 1, 2012 deadline.

 

The Task Force will hold a series of public information meetings that will also be televised on local public access cable Ville TV.  This will be an open public process and the committee will evaluate the findings of the report and the overall needs of the Borough of Somerville.
