The Mayor and Council received a presentation last night from Bob O'Neil, P.P./AICP, Principal Watershed Protection Specialist for the New Jersey Water Supply Authority.
Bob highlighted the overall success of the Rain Garden and Rain Barrel programs in Somerville. Since the program inception in 2010 the Rain Garden/Rain Barrel program in Somerville has worked to build and install 82 rain barrels and 3 rain gardens have been installed in Somerville through other projects. Somerville is proud to be the lead municipality in this program.
By participating in this program you can be eligible to receive up to a $200 rebate to install a rain barrels at your home and up to $450 to install a rain garden at your home. The Rain Barrel Rebate Program is in cooperation with the Regional Center Partnership.
There will be a number of upcoming Spring 2014 workshops for residents to have an opportunity to learn about both rain barrels and rain gardens.

The rain garden workshops will be held a Duke Farms Orientation Center in Hillsborough on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 6:00pm-8:00pm or Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 10:00am-12:00noon.
Rain barrel workshops will be scheduled for late March.
