New Jersey American Water is flushing its water distribution system starting March 20th through March 22nd in Somerville for testing to ensure tha tour customers continue to receive high-quality water service.
Flushing also allows us to monitor and maintain fire hydrants. When crews are working in your area, you may notice reduced pressure, cloudy appearance or discolored water.
If you experience cloudy and or discolored water, open a cold water faucet from the closest point where the water pipe enters the property and allow the water to flow for approximately 5 to 10 minutes.
Repeat this flushing step once or twice within an hour as necessary until the water clears. In the event of an emergency, or if you have a health condition that could be affected by a change in water supply, please contact New Jersey American Water at 1-800-272-1325.
