
The Planning Board will hold a public hearing to receive comments on the proposed designation of certain properties as the “Western End of Main Street Non-Condemnation Redevelopment Area.” This includes:
- Block 124.01 (Lots 2.01, 4-12, 14)
- Block 130 (Lots 1, 2, 4, 5)

Members of the public are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and share their comments. Following the hearing, the Planning Board may recommend the area for redevelopment. A final decision would then be made by the Borough Council at a separate public hearing.

Please be advised that the Planning Board of the Borough of Somerville (the “Board”) will hold an in-person public hearing (the “Hearing”) on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 6 pm. at 24 Robeson Street, Somerville, NJ 08876 for the purpose of hearing persons who are interested in or would be affected by the designation of Block 124.01, Lots 2.01, 4-12 and 14 and Block 130, Lots 1, 2, 4 and 5 as the “Western End of Main Street Non-Condemnation Redevelopment Area” (the “Area”).
A Non-Condemnation Redevelopment Study, Statement of Basis and boundary map have been prepared showing the boundaries of and parcels included in the Area as the basis for the Board’s investigation as to whether the Area meets one or more of the criteria required by the New Jersey Local Redevelopment and Housing Law, N.J.S.A. 40A:12A-1 et seq., for designation as a “Non-Condemnation Area in Need of Redevelopment”.

Any person who is interested in this matter will have the opportunity to address the Board and its professionals at the Hearing and to ask any questions concerning the contents of the study of the Area or any other relevant issue regarding the designation of the Area, or any portion thereof, as a Non-Condemnation Redevelopment Area. Any person who is interested in or affected by this matter will have the right to make objections or comments at the Hearing, all of which will be made part of the record.
Should the Board, upon considering the study of the Area and the testimony and evidence presented at the Hearing, take action to recommend that the Area, or any portion thereof, be designated as a Non-Condemnation Redevelopment Area, then the matter will be referred to the Borough Mayor and Council, who will decide at a subsequent public hearing whether to adopt a resolution designating that the Area, or portion thereof, as a Non-Condemnation Redevelopment Area.
