Update – October 14
The intersection of Mountain Avenue, Altamont Place, and West Cliff Street is closed to traffic during the final phase of the water main construction project.
Work Schedule
- Day 1: Install barriers, secure the work zone, and begin preparation for excavation.
- Day 2: Begin trench excavation and expose the existing 36” water main.
- Day 3: Continue excavation and fully expose the 36” water main.
- Day 4: Build and assemble new 36” x 30” and 36” x 8” tees.
- Day 5: Shut down the 36” water main, remove a section, and install the new tees. Backfill most of the excavation to reactivate the main.
- Day 6: Connect the new 30” water main to the existing 36” main.
- Day 7: Connect the 8” water main.
- Day 8: Pave the trench, clean up, and remove the work zone.
- Days 9–10: Reserved for weather or unforeseen delays.
Next Steps
Once construction is complete, NJ American Water will fill, flush, sample, and pressure test the new 30” water main. This work is expected to be completed by the end of October. Milling and final paving is planned in the spring 2026.

NJ American Water will continue working on the water main construction project. Expect minor traffic delays during working hours.
