The intersection of Mountain Avenue, Altamont Place, and West Cliff Street is closed to traffic during the final phase of the New Jersey American Water (NJAW) water main construction project.

NJAW completed work

  • October 13: Install jersey barriers and secure the work zone. Prep for excavation.
  • October 14: Excavate the trench and expose the existing 36” water main. Locate where 36” pipe reduces down to 16” on Altamont Pl. This was an unexpected delay. NJAW ordered the new reducer and it is expected to be delivered Friday, October 17.
  • October 15: Prepare the new tees that are going to be installed.
  • October 16: Tie the new 12” main into the new 30” main on Mountain Ave.

NJAW current work schedule

  • October 17: Depending on when the reducer is delivered, NJAW will continue to build the new tees that will be installed on Altamont Pl.
  • October 20: Shut down the 36” main on Altamont Pl and install the new tees and reducer. If there is time, Vollers will tie in the existing 8” main to the new 36” x 8” tee. NJAW will be going around the clock until the 36” main is turned back on.
  • October 21: Tie in 30” main into the 36” main. Pour concrete kickers.
  • October 22: Back fill and pave. Fill 30” water main on Altamont Pl.
  • October 23: Start breaking down the work zone. Flush the 30” main while the road is still closed.
  • October 24: Finish cleaning up work zone. Pressure test 30” water main.
