The pickleball courts at Vander Veer Memorial Park will be closed for construction starting Monday, October 13. They will remain closed until further notice. Please note that work is weather permitting.

This project aims to improve recreational facilities for Somerville residents and visitors.

About this project

At its meeting on September 15, 2025, the Somerville Borough Council approved Resolution 25-0915-258, awarding a contract to Halecon, Inc. for improvements to the Henry P. Vander Veer Memorial Park Pickleball Courts.

Following a public bid opening on August 28, 2025, two bids were received and reviewed. The lowest responsible bid was submitted by Halecon, Inc., located at 136 Billian Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807, in the amount of $181,340.00.

Improvements include grading and resurfacing, new nets, fencing, and windscreens. We estimate this project will be completed by Spring 2026.

  • $75,000: Local Recreation Improvement Grant
  • $15,534: Capital Budget
