Short-term volunteer opportunities

Mayor Gallagher and the Borough Council are seeking volunteers to serve on these new, ad-hoc committees.

Infrastructure Task Force

This task force will focus on various municipal infrastructure elements and make recommendations to the Mayor and Council. The recommendations will help in the development of 10-year improvement plans for every part of our Borough.

We plan to build a talent pool of people with diverse knowledge and skills, who we can mobilize as issues arise. We will keep your resume/bio on file and contact you when needed. We are currently seeking stakeholder residents with experience in any of these critical areas:

  • roads
  • technology
  • recreation
  • public works
  • facilities
  • project management
  • grant writing

Public Safety Committee

Many of the quality-of-life issues that our residents are frustrated with center on aspects of safety, including pedestrian safety, traffic speed, increased homelessness issues, rise in graffiti, condition of our parks and trails, and more. These different issues require different solutions, but they all relate to a safer and better community for all of Somerville. The Public Safety Committee will review specific issues, tasked by the Mayor and Council, and recommend potential solutions.

Seniors and Veterans Committee

The first task of this committee will be to return the Memorial Day Parade to Somerville this year, showing true honor to all who have served our country. With an increasingly older demographic, and a larger, and more diverse population in the Borough, it is imperative we be inclusive of seniors and our many honored veterans. The Seniors and Veterans Committee will focus on the needs of these two groups and work with government and non-profit partners (local, county, and state) to ensure information, activities, and benefits are made known to the public. The committee will also work with our Recreation Committee to ensure that there are defined Borough-sponsored activities for these groups.
