August 29 update: Somerville Library will officially reopen its doors to the public on Monday, September 8. Please visit the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey website for details.
August 18 update: Two vendors have inspected the facility, and a purchase order will be prepared this week. The necessary remediation work is limited in scope and anticipated to be completed by Labor Day. The library will reopen once air quality testing, mandated by the NJ Department of Health (Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health), is successfully completed. Please note that the testing process may take additional time due to regulatory guidelines and required waiting periods. This matter was discussed at the August 18, 2025 Borough Council meeting.
The Somerville branch of the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) is currently closed to the public due to a mold remediation project. The type of mold found does not pose an imminent threat and the closure is a precautionary measure.
While the library is closed:
- The book drops will remain open for returns.
- You can access all library services at the other SCLSNJ locations. The closest branches are in Bridgewater (1 Vogt Drive) and Manville (100 South 10th Avenue).
- Participants in the Summer Reading Challenge can pick up their prizes from any SCLSNJ location.
