PSE&G has begun the installation of new gas main on Main Street – upgrading aging infrastructure and underground gas pipes on your street with new piping.
Main Street traffic impact
Beginning the evening of Monday, January 12, night crews will start construction from 8 pm to 5 am. Construction will start on Maple Street. At the end of each day, the trenches will be backfilled with temporary asphalt and plates secured.
- There will be road closures from Maple Street through Doughty Street.
- Throughout the duration of construction, please abide by all “no parking” signs as they will be posted 24 to 48 hours before work is scheduled to begin on each street.
- As with any construction project, you will experience changes in traffic patterns, loud noise, and the presence of heavy equipment and machinery.
- PSE&G is working with Somerville Police to allow local access throughout construction.
Parking in Downtown Somerville
Despite these closures, you can still easily access the parking lots!
- Lot 1 – access via North Davenport or Maple Street (one-way)
- Lot 2 – access via North Doughty or North Davenport
- Lot 6- still accessible through the Main Street entrance
All other municipal parking lots will be unaffected.
Downtown Somerville is open
Businesses are open and ready to serve you during construction.
- Despite ongoing PSE&G work on Division Street and Main Street, downtown Somerville businesses are ready to welcome you as always.
- Stores will not be affected by this construction, but check their websites or social media for any changes to their business hours.
- Any and all construction that may affect businesses will be communicated to the owners by the Downtown Somerville Alliance or by PSE&G.
Thank you for continuing to support downtown Somerville and shopping small!
