Redevelopment in the Borough of Somerville must:
Located at the center of New Jersey and its transportation network, Somerville has been called “Downtown Somerset County." All major transportation routes pass through or near the Borough, including private buses, NJT buses and trains (Raritan Valley line). Vehicle traffic uses State Routes 28, 202 and 206. U.S. Route 22 forms the northern boundary of the Borough, while Interstate 287 parallels Route 22. Interstate 78 is within 2 miles of the Borough.
As the seat of government for Somerset County, Somerville is home to many county facilities, including the courthouse and administrative buildings, plus RWJ University Hospital at Somerset.
The Borough's Main Street is a destination for shopping and dining for any taste.
Environmental remediation is currently taking place at 50 Kirby Avenue, the former Baker & Taylor warehouse site. Asbestos has been removed under the oversight of a DEP-licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP). Other items and non-hazardous materials have also been removed from the building.
