Friday, March 29: Borough Hall will be closed in observance of the Good Friday holiday. Garbage collection will operate as usual.

Leaf collection

From October to December, we provide options for leaf pickup and collection. This will help us keep storm drains clear and prevent flooding.

During the rest of the year, we provide chipper services for trees and branches.

How to manage your leaves

Option 1: Collect leaves in paper bags and call for pickup

  • Available from mid-October to mid-December
  • Leave paper bags at the curb (do not use plastic bags)
  • Call (908) 704-7195 to schedule pickup

Option 2: Drop off leaves in paper bags

  • Available from mid-October to mid-December
  • Drop off leaves in paper bags in the DPW dumpster at 32 5th Street (do not use plastic bags)
  • Dumpster is open from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday

Option 3: Rake leaves to the curb line

  • Available October 30 to early December
  • Do not place leaf piles on the sidewalk or road.
  • We will provide at least 3 rounds of leaf collection, following the chipper route
  • Each round takes about 2 to 3 weeks, weather permitting
  • We start at the edge of town and move towards the center

Safety tips

  • Do not block catch basins or storm drains (metal grates on the street), which help prevent flooding.
  • Keep leaves away from gutters and drainpipes to avoid blocking the free flow of water.
  • Do not pile leaves near intersection corners. This causes sight issues for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
  • Do not pile leaves around mailboxes, power poles, fences, fire hydrants, basketball hoops or other obstacles.
  • Do not park vehicles on or near leaves. The heat from a vehicle exhaust system could start a fire.

Prohibited debris

These items will not be collected because they may clog and damage the equipment:

  • Branches, sticks, and rocks
  • Grass clippings
  • Ornamental grasses
  • Flower potting material
  • Pumpkins and gourds
